Default Engine swap

I am looking at doing an engine swap have done a ton of reading on here.

I am going to be over landing with my m725. I know i am never going to get great gas mileage but looking for decent mileage. Also looking to get rid of transfer case while doing the swap.

Engines I've been looking at
4.0 Jeep motor of another inline 6 motor
Stock 350

I do not want to go diesel would love too but unless someone sponsors me it's not in the budget.
Open to other engine options and opinions

By getting rid of the transfer case are you planning 2 wheel drive or just wanting a more road friendly married transfer case?

I deleted your other two threads.

Automatic or manual? Stock axles or upgrade?

I ask because most everything made since 1992 is driver side drop married transfer case orientation. One trick several have done is a Ford 300 straight 6 with the Ford 5 speed and married transfer case. Then put a set of Ford Super Duty axles under the truck.

Completely forgot about the transfer case on the passenger side.

I might for time being replace motor and trans the save some more money to get axles

That was my thought as well 17 years ago. Engine and transmission then the rest. I did a Big Block Chevy 396 and NV4500. I liked it so much I never got to the other stuff. Then I did a 6.2 diesel for the Gasser in 2013. I have left it like that for 8 years now. It serves my needs and does what I want.

SBC 350. Lot's of trans and xfer choices. Manual or auto. SM465 with NP205 is bulletproof still readily available. Or TH400, 700R4 or 4l80E for automatics.

I agree with SBC being the cheapest, easiest and probably most rounded swap option.

First off thanks for the advice.

I am going with a stock 350 and a automatic something with overdrive. Then a np 205 transfer case. Wanted to stay with manual but like the automatic when off roading just makes things easier
