After you put that motor in your truck, be sure to post a picture of the broken front axle. No way it will support that motor for very long and survive.

Seriously, I would go looking for a BBC or a 6.2 or 6.5 diesel. Since you already have the chevy adaptor your engine choices are pretty good.

No kidding. It doesn't even look like its turboed. Personally I would not go any further with that. All that work and you won't even have a turboed Detroit. It doesn't even look like you could latch the hood down. I'm sorry man, it doesn't look like its going to fit. Trust me, I've driven Detroits before, they are big, but the non-turboed ones don't have much to be said about. There is a reason Detroit almost went under when Cummins and CAT far surpassed them in the diesel engine market. Now with their 60 series engines, they are back in the game, but there are better diesels out there. Fairly gutless IMHO unless you have a 9 or 13 speed behind them.

Boy if you try and mount that thing you could always put a seat in the bed to shift from. You should look for a chevy diesel or gas.

Theres a guy here in Seattle that has a 3 cyl Detroit and 4 spd out of an old bread truck, no cutting , powerful enough to get himself, his m-715, and his old rottwieller dog around, but loud!!!!!! Heavy & tall, it looks like thats a 4 banger, (might be a little too much) That inline chev with that 4 spd and married 205 would be dandy, or 6.2 or 6.5. the chevy 6 would be as peppy as the 6.2 if its a 292. You should stick with that straight 6 you took out. Especially if its a 292. The 6.2 chevy diesels were dogs and don't last that long.

The 6.2 was peppier than that old six-popper, sound better and lasted just fine and have a huge amount of parts available for them.
