Anyway she fired right up and sounded fine. It's a chevy tall deck 427. It was cool today so I let it warm up for 10 minutes or so. Well after 10 minutes the guage read 240 and water was coming out of the rad. Why would it over heat so fast?
Re: Over heating
Post by gimpyrobb on Oct 29, 2006, 8:12pm

Water pump?
Re: Over heating
Post by Barrman on Oct 30, 2006, 9:57am

Water pump or stuck closed thermostat as a second guess. Of course, how much water was in it from the start?
Re: Over heating
Post by porkchop on Oct 30, 2006, 10:22am

I would say stuck thermostat, since you have ran it in awhile.
Re: Over heating
Post by jeepcj on Oct 30, 2006, 2:58pm

The rad was full right to the top
Re: Over heating
Post by Swampthang on Nov 2, 2006, 1:21am

427's actually have two thermostats side by side. If one is open while the other is stuck, it might allow enough coolant to circulate so that it appears to be flowing back to the radiator and yet not be moving enough water to cool the engine.
