I need to remove the handles to strip and repaint underneath.
I haven’t gotten into the doors at all, are the handles hard to get off?

Very easy. There is a bolt at each end. The thumb plunger part is just a rod behind the outer part you push. That rod pushes against the latch assembly and does not connect to it physically other than pushing against the latch release lever. You can take apart the handle and lightly lube everything and check the return spring. I think you can get the handle gaskets at BJ's offroad. Easy peasy...
Digging into the doors tomorrow
You were right on Kaiser. The handle was an easy one, and the plastic gasket disintegrated when I took the handle off.

As for the handle gaskets, BJ's Off-road has new ones for the civilian Jeep that are the same as the M715 https://bjsoffroad.com/door-handle-g...-lock-gaskets/
